Ah -Hoc COMMITTEE COMPLETES VETTING RECRUITMENT PROCESS FOR WCEE EXXCUTIVE DIRECTOR

Committee Submits Report to President Boakai

The Ah-Hoc Committee on Vetting and Recruitment for the Executive Director of the Office of War and Economic Crimes Court (WCEE) has successfully completed its work and submitted its final report to His Excellency, President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr. The announcement was made by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Liberia, Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, who also chaired the committee.

The report was officially presented to the President on Sunday, October 20, 2024, upon his return from Rome, Italy. Based on the committee’s recommendations, Cllr. Jallah A. Barbu, who achieved the highest overall score during the evaluation process, has been appointed as Executive Director of the WCEE. The appointment was published on the Executive Mansion website via a press release on Friday, November 1, 2024.

Committee Composition and Contributions

The Ah-Hoc Committee comprised a distinguished panel of representatives from various institutions, including:

  • Mr. George Kingsley – National Civil Society Council
  • Mr. Adama K. Dempster – Civil Society Human Rights Advocacy Platform and Transitional Justice Platform
  • Cllr. T. Dempster Brown – Independent Human Rights Commission
  • Cllr. Sylvester D. Rennie – Liberia National Bar Association
  • Imam Mohammed A. Kiazolu – Inter-Religious Council
  • Rev. Christoe Wleh Toe – Inter-Religious Council
  • MOJ Secretariat

Under the leadership of Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, the committee carried out its mandate with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality. The Minister of Justice extended his gratitude to all members for their dedication and commitment throughout the process.

As part of transparency and public engagement, Mr. Adama K. Dempster, representing the Civil Society Human Rights Advocacy Platform and Transitional Justice Platform, will present key details of the report at the MICAT Regular Press Briefing on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
