On September 25, 2024, Adama K. Dempster, representing the Civil Society Human Rights Advocacy Platform, delivered a compelling presentation at the Democracy Impact Fellowship Program hosted by the U.S. Embassy in Liberia.
His address focused on the urgent need for the establishment of a War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia, underscoring its potential to address past atrocities, economic mismanagement, and its broader implications for national peace and security.
Dempster emphasized the critical role such a court would play in delivering justice for victims, holding perpetrator accountable, and fostering national reconciliation. He outline the long-term benefits of the court, including the strengthening of the rule of law, deterrence of future abuses, and the enhancement of Liberia’s international of international standing as a nation committed to upholding justice and human rights.
In his call to action, Dempster urged both local and international stakeholder to support the establishment of the court. He stressed that its creation is essential for achieving lasting peace, justice, and for the continued rebuilding of Liberia.
