COMMEMORATING 35 YEARS SINCE THE ST. PETER’S LUTHERA CHURCH MASSACRE ON JULY 29,1990 MONROVIA LIBERIA

On July 29, 2025, Adama K. Dempster made a presentation at Lutheran Church for the 35 years Memorie since the tragic St. Peter Lutheran Church Massacre, a somber chapter in Liberia’s history. On that fateful night in 1990, more than 600civilans – women, men, and children were brutally killed, allegedly by government forces (AFL), as documented in the Truth Reconciliation Commission (TRC) report.

The commemoration was a day of dep reflection, remembrance and solidarity with victims and survivors. The program featured moving remarks from the Representative of the president of Liberia, Education Minister Ansu Sonil Jallah, member of the diplomatic crops, Civil Society leaders, the church and other partners, all reaffirming their support for survivors and their quest for justice. some survivors courageously recounted their painful memories of that night, describing how terror and despair filled the church compound as cries echoed in the darkness. As part of the event, wreaths were laid on behalf of Civil Society organization, the human rights community and transitional justice groups, reaffirming our collective commitment to justice reparations, and national reconciliation in Liberia. We extend our gratitude to the Lutheran church Massacre Survivors Assocation (LUMASA) and the Lutheran church of Liberia for organizing this important commemoration, ensuring that the memories of those lost continue to inspire the fight for accountability and lasting peace
